Know more about AMJ

AMJ is a globally ranked, law firm with world-class capability and a proud history of over 40 years in Oman. We combine a unique, partner-led approach with pragmatic, commercial insight and exceptional legal expertise to help clients navigate their most complex challenges and achieve their strategic goals. At AMJ, we never lose sight of the fact that our clients are at the heart of our business — our client-first philosophy underpins everything we do.

Evolution

In 1986, UK barrister Mansoor Jamal Malik assumed leadership and transformed the firm from a boutique dispute-resolution practice into a premier, full-service business law firm. In 2004, AMJ underwent a successful merger with the legal office of Dr Said Al Busaidy, a distinguished Omani jurist, former Supreme Court judge and Vice-President of Oman’s State Council.

Today, AMJ is the leading law firm in Oman, comprising seven partners and a 15-member legal team organised into five specialist practice groups. Our team includes highly experienced UK- and Commonwealth-qualified solicitors and barristers, Arab law specialists and Omani advocates — together forming the most diverse and accomplished in-country legal team in the Sultanate. Many of our lawyers are recognised as leaders in their respective fields in Oman and internationally.

Recognition

AMJ and its lawyers have consistently achieved top-tier rankings across all major international legal directories, reflecting our market-leading expertise in both corporate and commercial law as well as dispute resolution.

Our Services

We deliver integrated legal advice to financial institutions, corporates, government entities and state-owned enterprises across a broad spectrum of domestic and cross-border matters. Our work encompasses commercial transactions, regulatory frameworks, litigation advisory, arbitration, both institutional and ad hoc proceedings.

We provide business-minded, cost-effective counsel that balances legal precision with practical insight. We understand that clients often need strategic, solutions-oriented advice that goes beyond the strict letter of the law. This commercial and pragmatic ethos sets us apart from competitors and underpins the loyalty we value from many of Oman’s most influential businesses and institutions.

Value

Clients value our unique blend of Oman-specific counsel and international expertise. Whilst our lawyers combine multi-jurisdictional experience with a deep understanding of Oman’s legal, regulatory, and commercial landscape – our firm delivers so much more to its clients.

As trusted advisers to government and regulatory bodies — and with strong Arabic language capability — we maintain close relationships with key institutions. These connections are invaluable to clients seeking to anticipate, interpret and address the complexities that may affect their business or transactions.

Partner-Led Teams

Our clients work directly with focused, partner-led teams to ensure consistently high standards and clear, responsive communication. Each team has its own specialist focus, yet our collaborative structure allows clients to benefit from the collective expertise of the entire firm. This integrated approach safeguards our clients’ commercial and legal interests at every stage.

Sector Expertise

Our lawyers advise across the full spectrum of sectors, including power and water, infrastructure, oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, banking and finance, transport, maritime, ports and shipping, media and telecommunications, insurance, taxation, and insolvency.

Our sector expertise is based on experience. Since its founding, AMJ has played a pivotal role in shaping key sectors of the Omani economy through involvement in landmark transactions and legislative developments. Most recently, we have advised the Government of Oman on the restructuring of major sectors such as power, aviation and logistics; on the corporatisation and pre-privatisation of state-owned enterprises; and on complex public-private partnerships and hybrid financing structures integrating both conventional and Shariah-compliant elements.

International Dimension

In an increasingly interconnected world, cross-border capability is essential. AMJ’s lawyers and consultants bring extensive multi-jurisdictional experience, complemented by long-standing strategic alliances with many of the world’s leading international law firms.

Through our membership in premier global law networks, we enable clients to access high-quality, commercially minded advice in any global market should they need to transact, invest or resolve disputes.

Getting the Job Done

Whether you are a foreign investor establishing operations in Oman or an Oman-based business expanding, restructuring, or resolving disputes, AMJ provides the expertise and insight to support you. Our team will guide you through any kind of complex transactions and strategic business issues.

Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of AMJ’s culture — embedded at every level and in every aspect of how we work. We take pride in having cultivated a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to realise their full potential in pursuit of the Firm’s goals, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, or age.

Our success is built on a long-term commitment to recruiting, retaining, and promoting lawyers and professionals of diverse backgrounds and experiences gained across multiple international jurisdictions. The varied perspectives and insights of our people reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live and work, enriching both our culture and the quality of service we deliver to our clients. We value their ability to adapt to different client needs, communication styles, and ways of doing business — all within an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding.

Today, AMJ’s in-country team of international lawyers, Omani advocates, and support professionals is the most diverse of any law firm in Oman. Our team includes nationals from nine countries across five continents who, between them, speak every business language used in Oman in addition to English. Many are fluent in Arabic — the official language of law and government — and women are represented at all levels of management, accounting for one-third of our workforce.

Equally important, the diversity of our people creates an enriching environment for our young Omani lawyers and support staff, who comprise more than a third of the Firm. AMJ has a long-standing legacy of training and mentoring the largest cohort of Omani lawyers of any law firm in the country. Many of our alumni now hold senior positions in the judiciary, the public prosecution, leading companies, government bodies, and private practice.

Each year, the Firm welcomes new Omani trainee lawyers — both men and women — and is committed to their professional growth by giving them exposure to domestic and international transactions. Our aim is to nurture the next generation of Omani lawyers and, in doing so, to strengthen the legal profession in the Sultanate.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to the continued development and promotion of Omani lawyers to senior leadership roles in an environment defined by transparency and equal opportunity. Through these efforts, AMJ seeks to contribute to nation-building by developing a new generation of high-calibre legal professionals capable of advancing and sustaining a robust, dynamic legal community in Oman.

Pro Bono and Community Commitment

As a leading law firm in Oman, AMJ is committed to investing in the community in which we live and work. As legal professionals — and as individuals — we are driven by a shared purpose to improve access to justice for under-served groups across society.

We assist non-profit organisations, as well as the individuals they support, in understanding and exercising their legal rights. Our pro bono work not only benefits the wider community but also enriches our lawyers’ professional and personal growth. It offers valuable insight into the world beyond commercial law and provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives.

In addition to pro bono work, AMJ supports a number of community-based schemes and initiatives, particularly those focused on literacy and youth education. Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to the development of young people in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable.

Our vacation internship programme also reflects this commitment. We offer mid-year and end-of-year placements to law undergraduates studying in Oman or abroad, as well as short-term work experience opportunities for secondary school students considering a career in law.

We invest considerable time to ensure that interns gain practical exposure to legal practice and an understanding of how a law firm operates. Our lawyers also regularly engage with local schools and universities — participating in career fairs, mentoring sessions and awareness events — to guide aspiring lawyers on their professional journey.
