Aviation
Oman’s aviation industry has expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by a decade of multi-billion-dollar investment in aviation infrastructure and air transport to support the country’s tourism and logistics ambitions. Major developments include the USD 1.8 billion terminal at Muscat International Airport, the airport within the Duqm Free Zone, and new passenger and cargo terminals at Salalah Airport in southern Oman.
AMJ has a long and distinguished history in virtually every area of aviation law in Oman. We regularly assist government agencies, financiers, airlines and other aviation-sector clients with transactional, regulatory, corporate, commercial and operational matters, as well as dispute resolution.
Our lawyers have extensive experience structuring complex aircraft financing, sale, purchase and lease transactions, together with associated security packages. We have in-depth knowledge of Oman’s Civil Aviation Law and the sector-specific regulations governing aircraft licensing, registration and operation. We also advise on airport management, infrastructure and supply agreements, construction, aircraft operation and maintenance contracts, corporate structures, start-ups, licensing and a wide range of contractual issues.
Recent work includes advising the Government of Oman on the restructuring and corporatisation of the nation’s state-owned aviation assets, as well as the establishment of Oman’s first low-cost airline, Salam Air. The firm also maintains a niche practice handling a wide range of claims on behalf of international airlines operating in the Sultanate.
