Islamic Finance

AMJ is the only law firm in Oman with a dedicated Islamic Finance team. The group comprises international lawyers who have advised on high-profile and innovative transactions across Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Even before the formal introduction of Islamic banking and finance in Oman in 2011, AMJ’s lawyers were engaged by the Government of Oman and regulatory authorities to assist in developing the Islamic banking regulatory framework— and later, the frameworks governing takaful (Sharia-compliant insurance) and sukuk (Islamic bonds).

Today, our award-winning team advises clients on a broad range of Islamic finance transactions, products and regulatory frameworks in this rapidly evolving sector. We have extensive experience in structuring and implementing complex investment, finance and debt capital markets transactions that comply with both Shariah and conventional banking requirements, while meeting all relevant regulatory standards.

Our lawyers advise government entities, corporates, banks and funds on sukuk programmes and issuances, real estate investment funds, securitisations, and project financings utilising a variety of Shariah-compliant instruments. These financings range from fully Shariah-compliant structures to hybrid conventional–Islamic transactions.

We also assist Islamic financial institutions in structuring new products and services and in drafting transaction documentation for their corporate and retail clients. The practice is fully integrated with AMJ’s top-ranked Finance and Capital Markets teams, giving it unrivalled depth and expertise in the Omani market.
